Michael Jordan Praised For His ‘Very Smart’ Prenup Agreement

(TheSpun) - Michael Jordan has been married to his current wife, Yvette Prieto, for more than a decade.

The legendary NBA star and his Cuban wife met out at a nightclub. They married in 2013. They have two children together. Jordan was previously married to his first wife, Juanita Jordan, from 1989-2006.

Jordan, a six-time NBA champion, has a net worth higher than $1 billion. He made millions during his playing career and his since generated his Nike deal into a fortune. But Jordan is smartly protecting it.

Jordan, who has a net worth of $3.8 billion, according to Forbes, is protecting it with a prenuptial agreement.

The prenuptial agreement states that Jordan will pay her $1 million for each year they are married. If the couple stays married for more than 10 years – which they already have; the couple married in 2013 – she will receive $5 million per year of marriage.

Jordan previously lost a ton from his first marriage.

“In Jordan’s previous divorce he ended up paying his wife approximately $168 million, as well as giving her custody of their three children. She also got to keep the marital home, a sprawling 25,000 square foot estate in Chicago,” the law firm reported.

Prenuptial agreements are becoming more common.

“By having the prenuptial agreement in place, both parties know what to expect and can greatly simplify the divorce settlement process if their marriage comes to an end. But prenuptial agreements aren’t just for the mega-wealthy; they are an effective and practical tool for anyone who wants to take the uncertainty out of divorce.”
