Chicago Lawyer Made Career Stealing From Trust Funds

(kyw) The Chester County District Attorney's office has arrested an attorney for years of alleged theft from clients.

Attorney Joshua Janis is charged with taking money that was supposed to be placed in a trust fund, but which actually ended up in his own pocket.

"He made a career out of stealing from his clients and others around him," Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said. "He has been arrested for defrauding 29 former clients, as well as his wife, and we are lookiing at him for other victims as well."

Hogan says Janis began misdirecting funds in 2014, when he lived in Downingtown, and continued until this past December. The DA says most of the victims were in Chester County, but Janis also had clients in Philadelphia. He now lives in New Jersey.

Hogan says Janis skimmed $100,000 from his clients. Janis is free on $10,000 unsecured bail and his preliminary hearing is Feb. 15.
