Wimbledon Star Set To Inherit $4.8 Billion Shows Her True Character With Comments On Wealth

(The Mirror US) - A privileged upbringing hasn't prevented one Wimbledon star from advancing in the tournament, and she has addressed the 'billionaire heiress' label that has followed her.

Emma Navarro is determined to shake off the 'billionaire heiress' label that has shadowed her throughout her tennis career.

And clinching a Grand Slam title at Wimbledon could be the key. The American talent, who joked Jannik Sinner "begged" to play alongside her at SW19, has advanced to the second round of the prestigious London tournament after defeating Petra Kvitova. Navarro now looks ahead to a clash with Veronika Kudermetova on Thursday.

Her parents, Ben and Kelly Navarro, have amassed their staggering $4.8 billion fortune in the finance industry, as reported by Forbes. And it's hardly surprising tennis fans are intrigued by her wealthy background.

It's quite rare for someone with access to such funds to make a splash in the competitive world of sports. After all, most of those born with a silver spoon opt for easier lifestyles that don't necessarily comprise so much painstaking work.

But Emma, who ousted Coco Gauff from Wimbledon last year, is focused on letting her racket speak for itself. And she is demonstrating that her ascent to the top echelons of tennis was not facilitated by any unfair advantages.

"I don't read anything. I don't read the comments, the articles, any of that stuff," she told Tatler magazine (via Daily Express). "I don't know what the fans are saying."

"There will be headlines and they kind of mention that [her father's billionaire status] which is fine, but I didn't grow up being handed things. We grew up in a sort of traditional way.

"We'd get up at 6am on a Saturday morning and go play tennis...growing up it was a priority that we learnt toughness and we learnt work ethic and how to be intentional and purposeful and live productive lives so I don't love being referred to as whoever with however-much-money's daughter. It's a label I don't really like."

The South Carolina resident is confident her spot among the elite is well-deserved, earned through hard work just like her contemporaries. And after making it into the quarter-finals at SW19 in 2024, she's determined to make another splash in England this year.

Navarro, 24, is second only to Jessica Pegula in terms of the wealthiest active players on the circuit. Pegula's father, Terry, has an estimated net worth of $7.6BN and will inevitably pass down a substantial portion of that to his daughter, who has also earned her own accolades on the court.

Compared to her father's wealth, Navarro's earnings may seem like a drop in the ocean. But she has amassed an impressive $4.6M playing on the WTA Tour thus far.

This includes two tournament victories over the past 18 months. She won her maiden WTA title at the Hobart International in January 2024 before also clinching the Merida Open this past March.

Navarro is so committed to her craft that she has even put romance on the back burner to concentrate solely on her career. However, she's not opposed to the idea of leaving the single life behind now as she added: "Tennis is it, for now. We'll see. My heart's open, let's put it that way."
