Take a Family Trip to Europe Without Breaking the Bank

A fun, educational family trip to Europe can be very expensive, but there are ways to keep costs down, according to Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

How to Save on the Expenses of a Trip to Europe

Renting a condo is a must to avoid booking multiple rooms or a costly family suite at a traditional hotel, the publication writes. Properties which offer several bedrooms and ample living space are available through reputable agencies at reasonable rates, according to Honolulu Star-Advertiser . Furthermore, cooking at a rental property, and only dining out once a day, can keep costs down, as this is often one of the most expensive parts of a vacation, Johnson writes.

The extensive European rail network offers an affordable way to get around the continent, and when in larger cities, entry fees for major attractions can often be bundled together using a city pass, Johnson writes. The Rome Pass, for example, offers entry to two of six historical sites, discounts on 30 others and access to public transport for the day, she writes.

Despite the temptation of doing as much sightseeing as possible, try to choose one main attraction per day to avoid multiple entry fees and worn-out kids, Johnson writes. There are also many free attractions such as parks, local festivals and city landmarks where kids can play while parents unwind, she writes.
