(The Chronicle of Philanthropy) - Two disturbing trends have converged in the nonprofit world in recent years.

The first is the effect of income and wealth inequality on whose interests get heard by government, business, and philanthropic leaders. The second is the declining participation in civic institutions, and the increasing number of people who say they feel isolated and alienated from community life.
